Looking forward to 2012
I'm currently employed as a regular employee with a great company, with wonderful people and many opportunities. Currently, I design and deliver training courses for loan consultants, processors, underwriters and other professional disciplines for the largest privately held bank in southern California. Always looking to learn new skills, I am getting better every day with Adobe Captivate, a multimedia authoring tool that enables me to create interactive eLearning courses.
Beyond SPHR Designation
Having earned the SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) designation from HRCI, I decided to take it one step further. On December 3rd, 2011, I passed the SHRM California Learning System exam, earning the SHRM CA (California) designation, awarded by the HR Certification Institute. This signifies that I possess the theoretical knowledge and practical experience in human resource management necessary to pass a rigorous examination demonstrating a mastery of the field, not only at a national level, but also at the state level. California a very unique state when it somes to employment law. It is the only state with its own certification designation. It makes sense when you consider that although California has only 18% of the U.S. population, we get over 40% of the employment lawsuites.
"Certification as a human resource professional clearly demonstrates a commitment to personal excellence and to the human resource profession," said Mary Power, CAE, Executive Director of the HR Certification Institute.
To become certified, an applicant must pass a comprehensive examination and demonstrate a strong background of professional human resource experience.
The HR Certification Institute is the credentialing body for human resource professionals and is affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the world's largest organization dedicated exclusively to the human resource profession. The Institute's purpose is to promote the establishment of professional standards and to recognize professionals who meet those standards.
Helping Others With Their Job Search
At networking events, I usually have my personal tri-fold brochure that acts as a mini-resume and helps me to connect with people. It's a simple yet powerful tool that I designed in PowerPoint. You can learn more about it here.
When I was searching for a job, I met many others who were also looking for employment. I now have a Career Resources job search page that pulls in job leads from a wide variety of sources across the Internet, powered by SimplyHired.com. I encourage you to check out the following:
The World is My Garden
When I'm out and about, I always have a camera with me, even if it's just my iPhone. I recently put together a collection of colorful flowers in a photo essay that I call, "The Garden."
Public Speaking Engagements
During my job search, I kept my training skills sharp by making several presentations each month, mostly to job clubs and other groups geared towards helping those in transition to become employed. Most of these events are free and open to the public. As more events are scheduled, I will post them here. However, due to the demands of my current position, I am only available evenings and weekends. Previous presentations have included:
