Job Clubs
OPEN - Outstanding Professionals Employment Network
Meeting at the Simi Valley EDD Office (980 Enchanted Way, Suite 105, Simi Valley, CA), OPEN is designed to help degreed professionals learn job hunting skills, improve their resumes, and to network with other professionals seeking employment. OPEN hosts a career devleopment workshop once a month and meets every Friday, 9am - 11:30am (except the one week each month when the workshop is running). Upon completing the OPEN workshop, participants are then allowed to join the OPEN Yahoo Group, receiving job leads and helpful insights on a regular basis. Greater Los Angeles Professionals, Experience Unlimited of Canoga Park
GLAPros, the Canoga Park chapter of Experience Unlimited, is an interactive career resource center for professionals who are seeking work in the San Fernando Valley and the Greater Los Angeles Area. GLAPros is sponsored by the California Employment Development Department (EDD). Experience Unlimited is a volunteer-based program offering professionals an assortment of job-hunting tools and resources, all at no-fee. The program also serves as a free source for employers and recruiters to contact highly qualified and motivated candidates to meet their hiring and outplacement needs.

People Between Jobs Club
Meeting at the Shepherd of the Hills Church (19700 Rinaldi Street, Room 203, Porter Ranch, CA) the first and third Monday of each month, the People Between Jobs Club features informative presentations, networking and job leads. It's open to the public and everyone is welcome. It is a non-profit, free service, open to everyone. There is free parking, free refreshments, hidden job postings, events, tips, advice, counsel, support, resources on lodgings, food, medical, dental, and eyecare. Conejo Jewish Job Support Group
The Conejo Jewish Job Support group meets every Tuesday, 9:30am 10:00am, at the Temple Adat Elohim (2420 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA). Business Casual Attire, please. There is no cost to attend, invite your friends & colleagues! RSVPS not necessary. You’re welcome to bring a dollar or two for bagels and coffee.
Vocare Networking Support Group
The Vocare Networking Support Group meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 7:00-8:30pm at the Ascension Lutheran Church (1600 E. Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks). Vocare (pronounced vo-kar-ay) is a faith-based networking group for those who are in transition and searching for career or vocational direction and support. “Vocare” is a Latin verb that means “to call.” Anyone seeking a networking opportunity in a spiritual surrounding - those from any religious affiliation. HR Networking Groups
HR Executive Roundtable (i.e. the Steve Sanders Group)
Tracking hundreds of HR positions, this group meets weekly at 2:30pm in Northridge. You can get an invitation to attend by e-mailing Steve Sanders at steve@careerdirxns.com. There is a $5 cost to cover materials.
HR Connections: Sponsored by Lee Hecht Harrison. They meet once a month, alternating between Woodland Hills and Pasadena. You can contact PIHRA member Sal Gudino at sal.gudino@lhh.com (626-440-5555) to get an invitation. This group is free and open to HR professionals in transition.
The Challenger Networking Group. Though not specifically for HR, there are a lot of HR folks in the Challenger Networking Group, meeting twice a month at the Zen Garden Buffett in Woodland Hills, the first and third Tuesday of the month at 12pm. They have featured speakers and a lot of networking going on. You can find their group on Linkin.com or you can e-mail the organizer, Pete Tzavalas, at petetzavalas@challengergray.com for more details. It only costs $11 to buy lunch when you attend.
Workforce Training
Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
The Workforce Investment Act helps unemployed workers through job training, job placement and "other services." It's a little daunting at first, but if you're tenacious and get them everything they need, it's a wonderful program. They can help pay for training or other certification courses that can help you land a job.
